It’s no secret that more and more people are going mobile when it comes to computing. The success of the iPhone and, more specifically, iPhone apps, speaks volumes in terms of understanding how people are getting their information these days. But perhaps most interesting, a recent TechRepublic.com
blog pointed out that the trend toward using mobile devices to access the Internet actually might give Google a run for its…

The recent tremendous upheaval in the world economy did not bring out the best in the large army of SOA pundits. The upheaval was going to be "the end of SOA" or SOA was going to be "the answer" to the upheaval. While there was no clear consensus among the SOA pundits, the fact is, some have been on auto-pilot so long, the auto-pilot is now the pilot.
Where is SOA, really? We felt asking the audiences at TechTarget Application Development Group member sites SearchSOA.com and TheServerSide.com w…

Go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because that’s where you will find success. On the far side of failure.
You must accept that you might fail; then, if you do your best and still don’t win, at least you can be satisfied that you’ve tried. If you don’t accept failure as a possibility, you don’t set high goals, you don’t branch out, you don’t try - you don’t take the risk. Continue

As a full-time MCT, I am more than happy to keep up my certifications, to allows me to have the latest knowledge and credentials to teach within the IT industry. But, how much is enough. An example of my frustration is evident with the new generation of Microsoft SQL certifications. The certifications for 2005 were only all available in late 2006 and early 2007, there were 7 exams total. Now in 2009, there are 3 more exams to UPDATE your certification to the 2008 version, making a total of 10 ex…

Here’s one recent White House development that’s likely to spark controversy: A number of Republican politicians want to approve a new federal law that would force both Internet providers as well as Wi-Fi access locations to keep Internet users’ information on file for a period of two years, according to a

What’s the reasoning behind this decision? It seems the information could come in handy during po…

Two decades ago a 23-year-old Cornell University graduate student brought the Internet to its knees with a simple software program that skipped from computer to computer at blinding speed, thoroughly clogging the then-tiny network in the space of a few hours.
The program was intended to be a digital “Kilroy Was Here.” Just a bit of cybernetic fungus that would unobtrusively wander the net. However, a programming error turned it into a harbinger heral…

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A focus group is a form of qualitative research in which a group of people are asked about their attitude towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea, or packaging. Questions are asked in an interactive group setting where participants are free to talk with other group members.
Ernest Dichter originated the idea of having a "group therapy" for products and this process is what became known as a focus group.[1]

February 13, 2009 (Computerworld) Hacking an iPhone is against the law, Apple Inc. has argued in comments filed with the U.S. Copyright Office.
According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a freedom-of-speech advocacy organization, this is the first public statement from Apple about its legal position on "jailbreaking," the term used to describe hacking an iPhone to install third-party applications not sold via Apple's own App Store.
In comments submitted to the Copyright Office, App…

In the month of December, the new first lady bypassed A-list celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears to claim the crown of “most spammed subject,” according to anti-spam company SPAMfighter. Out of a total of 1.4 million spam emails, Jolie received 195 hits and the pop singer scored 468, while Mrs. Obama’s name appeared in nearly 2,000 emails. (Whether or not the…

A lot of programs you install will add themselves to the right-click menu of your files and/or folders. And most times, you have no choice in the matter and, as a result, your right-click menu can get very long with added items you don't even use. The last person I was helping with this had a right context menu so long that the Rename option was no longer visible!
Fortunately, you can easily remove those unwanted menu items, if you know the registry values to edit. And it's not at all difficult…

The recently proposed Wall Street bailout bill caused quite a stir this week — and the commotion wasn’t just about its contents!
IT staffers at the House of Representatives have been working around the clock to handle the flurry of e-mails that resulted when the general public was urged to send comments to representatives regarding the bill.
The surge in traffic caused the entire system to clog up, and many citizens likely stumbled upon a busy signal when trying to route their e-mail to the ap…

Well, this is essentially what cops can now do, albeit from the safety of their desks.
That's right, technology triumphs and beats the bad guys again!
While sitting in front of their computers, law enforcement officials can track down the exact location of a suspect. They do this through a GPS, or Global Positioning…

Well, it’s happened. That massive Internet security flaw that was revealed last month by Dan Kaminsky of IOActive Inc. has been exploited. According to an article on CNN.com, hackers have taken advantage of the weakness to infiltrate information being sent back and forth on DNS servers and redirect people from legitimate Web addresses to sites of their own creation. This is despite the fact that the details of the flaw have been kept tightly under wraps. While one immediate issue here is that of…

If 2008 had a theme song, it might be “Bad Boys.”
It certainly does seem like this year — and month in particular — is rife with examples of security issues.
First, on July 7, security researchers said they discovered a major Internet software flaw that would allow hackers to reroute, at will, all those using corporate computer networks.
The man who discovered the flaw, Dan Kaminsky, a researcher at IOActive Inc., had this to say to the L.A. Times: “This is about the integrity of the Web, thi…
